I am seeking information about how law libraries handle
their staff development programs. Included in this category would be
seminars and workshops (both in-house and external), classes for
credit, and conferences/conventions, or any other type of
development activities. I am interested in these specific points:
1. What categories of staff can take part in staff development
opportunities. Are there restrictions on the type of
staff development which can be attended or who can attend
them (i.e., can only certain categories of staff participate
in all or part of staff development events, etc.)
2. How are these activities handled in terms of payment, leave time
granted, etc. (i.e., do all or some staff members receive
funding, reimbursement, paid leave time, etc. to attend events).
3. If you are an academic law library, does your University
administer the staff development program or does final discretion
(and interpretation of University regulations) rest with the
Law Library administration.
I'm interested in as much or as little detailed information as you
are willing to provide. Please respond directly to me (Email address
listed below). I really appreciate your input. Thanks in advance.
