I am one that is outraged at the manner at which BNA has poorly communicated
their plans to cease publishing the hard copy version of the state regs and
has tripled the price in cd-rom. I just spoke to my rep, and here is what
he had to say: 1) the CD will eventually have more info than the hard copy
version - the hc contained "selective" regs, while the CD will eventually
have them all. (altho he couldn't tell me when this would occur - the initial
July disk will still only have what is now in hard copy). Of course, he
explained how researching will be faster and easier w/a cd.
The cd rom reader - they are "loaning" this to us until the end of our
current subscription year. If you resubscribe to at least one portion on
cd, you can keep the reader. BNA has no plans at this time to offer any
reduced pricing to academic institutions, as other cos. have done in the
past. If you are interested in the prices, they are as follows:
Federal Environmental Laws & Regs = $792.
Federal Chemical Laws & Regs = $616.
Federal Hazardous Materials Transportation = $680.
Each state = $466.
Total for all states and federal material = $6748.
fyi: we just paid $2321. for the federal environmental laws and the states.
I would be very interested in what other libraries are planning to do -
especially academic institutions.
