The information brokers who have responded make valid points which brings
up a new angle. I am happy to help those private information professionals
who are offering services and expertise to their clients similar to our
own. I am also happy to offer assistance to those non-librarians who on
occasion ask a question on the list because they have no local resources or
are otherwise unable to find the information they need. However, I draw
the line at supplying my expertise and help to those that are offering
legal research services but do not have the qualifications to do so.

Although I have not encountered this type on the list, I have encountered
them in various libraries where I have worked. These "information brokers"
lack the training and skills to offer services to their clients but are
very successful in getting librarians to supply the information they need -
for free.

I think it is only courtesy that EVERY posting to the list should conclude
with a name, e-mail address, AND the name of the institution or
affiliation.
