Oh dear --- now I feel compelled to speak forth, though our experience
is not representative of small-medium law firms.
I thought the suggestion to review the Automatome's quite comprehensive
two-issue survey was right on target, and I commend you to it.
We use TechlibPlus in a UNIX environment (and ours is a *very* large
UNIX environment indeed). I would not recommend it for a firm
with limited MIS or $$ resources, however.
But I must mention the Information Navigator, a UNIX-based system
that will run on 386 and 486 machines, in UNIX or DOS 5 (UNIX preferred),
and it's a natural for Sun SPARCstation servers. It's getting a lot
of attention, and its marketing effort seems quite high profile in only
the last 12 months --- and I've known the London-based founders of the system,
as ASIS researchers, and seen their product evolve over a period of
10 years. The company is IME, and has a NorthAmerican office in
Dedham, Mass. Madeline Miele in that office is the Pres. of IME
North America. If this has all been covered in the Automatome issues,
forgive me. It's my impression that the Information Navigator (aka
TINLIB) hasn't made a big incursion yet into the law library arena.
