Subject: Re: RLIN searching to omit foreign countries
Scott--
You can use the ALSO qualifier on RLIN to limit your search by place of
publication (see p.2-20 of the _RLIN Searching Manual_, 1/91). CP, CPR, or PP
will work to represent place of publication. You have to use the code for the
U.S. (which you would get from the Library of Congress' _USMARC Code List for
Countries_. A sample search:
fin sp liquor laws#/als pp xxu
xxu is the code for the U.S. beginning with 3/88 (looks like the code was us
before 3/88). You can limit by state if the U.S. by using postal abbreviations
as in mnu for books published in Minnesota.
There's also a language restriction you can use with the ALSO qualifier (which
I've used a lot, though I've never tried the place of publication
restriction).
The search would be fin sp liquor laws#/als lg eng. This gives you only
English language publications (but from anywhere in the world including the
U.S.).
Good luck. Lyo.
