TOPIC: COMMUNICATIONS & INFORMATION POLICY UNDER CLINTON

        HOST: Harry Goodman

        CONFIRMED GUESTS:
        PARTRICIA GLASS SCHUMAN
American Library Association - Immediate Past President
Chair - ALA "Right To Know" Campaign

        MARC ROTENBERG

        Social Responsibility

        MITCH RATCLIFF
        Editor-At-Large, MacWeek Magazine

Last Friday's appointment of Ronald Plesser, a key
lobbyist for the Direct Marketing Association and the
Information Industry Association, to Clinton's Science &
Technology transition team raises serious questions about the
direction of communications and information policy under the
incoming administration. Plesser is to oversee a study group
examining the Federal Communications Commission.
Various public interest groups, including the Taxpayer
Asset Project and Computer Professionals for Social
Responsibility, have taken significant exception to the
appointment. They believe Plesser's lobbying activities on
behalf of private sector companies will unfairly slant
forthcoming policy and personnel choices.
In this Saturday's (12/12) edition of _Your Expanding
InfoSphere: CommonSense ComputerTalk_ we'll explore not only
the controversey surrounding recent appointments but the
opportunity to expand availability of lowcost communications
and information services in the next few years.

LIVE call-ins will be accepted from approx 1530-1550 ET via
show line: 800/231-8255.

SATURDAY FEATURE:

PLANNING HOLIDAY GIFT SELECTIONS (3) for both current and
prospective computer users. MITCH RATCLIFF, Editor-At-Large,
MacWeek Magazin,e shares his holiday gift-giving suggestions --
from full systems to stocking stuffers.
