JDS OR NO JDS - Salary Comparisons

I recognize that many long time non-JD law librarians may feel disgruntled
and perhaps disrespected when a someone with a JD and MLS can earn as much
their first year on the job as they are after many years experience. I
know that my first years as a law librarian I learned a great deal from non-
JD law librarians at U of Md. and U of Buffalo. They were extremely talented
people and just as good, if not better, than any JD/MLS librarians I know
(myself included).

What they did lack was two graduate educations to PAY FOR. Any employer that
wants someone with a JD/MLS ought to expect to pay that librarian enough to
maintain at least a minimal standard of living while not defaulting on their
student loans. If they didn't pay JD/MLS people more on their first jobs - there wouldn't be very many working as librarians. They'd all have to work as
<gasp> lawyers.
