We have kept these statistics for years at the Gallagher Law Library. We
keep no other circulation statistics, though when we get III next summer
we will have the capability. I reviewed all statistics 3 years ago and
surprised myself by recommending that we continue to keep these counts.
It is the only proof we have that the library is heavily used. Good to
have numbers to compare to other UW libraries; good to show heavy use of
collection itself since most books do not circulate; demonstrated need for
more photocopy machines. We do have library patrons reshelve their own
books in the reading room so we know these figures are conservative. I
will probably keep them even after we automate. More realistic than circ
figures.
