To Mr. Kelly and all others participating in the to have or to have not
the JD and/or the MLS:

It is unfortunate that perhaps one of the real issues of this discussion
is not being discussed, that is, compensation (salary or money in your
pocket). For a number of years I have listened to some of my non-JD
colleagues tell tales of how their many years of "reference" experience
come to naught when entry level (newly graduated) JD librarians join
the fold at a higher salary rate. The usual message seems to be too
bad so sad that you never took the time and made the sacrifice to go
to law school; it seems not to matter that the non-JD professional
librarian has spent maybe ten years plus honing their skills at a
reference desk , or heaven forbid, in a technical services department.

I do not intend to be flip, but this issue seems to rear its ugly head
every few years with little or no honest discussion. I just wonder
how many fine librarians leave law librarianship because they have
felt their professional experience worth little in the eyes of their
administration.

My last comment is actually a question: how many medical librarians
have a MD?
