Reclassification projects

I am posting this to LAW-LIB and to NOTISLAW. Please excuse the
duplication.

Here at the University at Buffalo Law Library we have recently begun to
use the Library of Congress classification (LCC) schedules. We are
considering mounting a short-term, intensive project to reclass part
of the collection using all staff. I was wondering if anyone else
had done something similar and would be willing to share the specifics
of their project with me.

In particular, I would be interested in any documented procedures,
forms created, problems encountered, statistics, etc. Many of the
staff members would have no experience in cataloging, so training and
documentation are a big concern. Lack of adequate physical space in
which to handle everything during the transition is another big
concern.

We are a NOTIS library and have approximately 300,000 volumes. We began
using LCC in May 1993 for new titles. We have since been working on
the reclass of special collections. The cataloging dept. is small--
2 professionals, 1 clerk, and a number of student assistants.

Please reply to me personally. Any and all advice would be greatly
appreciated!
