I had a reference question related to US government resources on the Internet
and I thought I'd share my response with LAW-LIBers. Servus! Lyo.
---------------------
The "Clearinghouse for Subject-Oriented Internet Resource Guides" at
the University of Michigan provides access to the major guides to
United States government gophers, BBSs, WWW servers, etc. on the
Internet. To get there, gopher to una.hh.lib.umich.edu, choose #10
inetdirsstacks, then choose #15 (Austin/Tsang's guide to gov't
business and economics info) or the general guides, #37 (Gumprecht)
and #69 (Parhamovich).
To get access to US government gophers, gopher to Saint Louis
University's SLUVIEW gopher (sluava.slu.edu), #8 Library Services,
#3 SLU Law Library Services, #8 Other Specialized Gophers and
Information Servers, #27 US GOVERNMENT gophers or #28 US Senate
Gopher. (You can also access the "Clearinghouse" from SLU; it's #6
under the "Internet Training and Access Info" menu after you've chosen
#3 SLU Law Library Services).
The Cornell Law School gopher also provides access to US government
info. If you gopher to gopher.law.cornell.edu (or telnet
fatty.law.cornell.edu, login: gopher), you can choose #7 Government
(US) and Agency info.
Both Cornell and SLU have links to the _United States Government
Manual_ on the Internet (but I'm sure the Gumprecht guide includes
instructions for direct access)
If you cannot gopher directly to these sites, if you
telnet to Cornell, you get access to SLU (or you can telnet to the
Washburn University Law gopher, telnet acc.wuacc.edu, login: lawnet,
to get access to SLU and Cornell gophers).
Buena suerte!
Lyo.
