The following is an announcement for a new position at the Duke Law
School, which has been filled on an acting basis since July 1993.
This is a senior management position for which the Law School wishes
to attract a strong field of candidates. For a copy of the complete

                   Manager of Computing Services-Duke Law School

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Associate Dean for
Library and Computing Services, manages and coordinates law
school computing services, including local area networks serving
administration, faculty, staff, publications, and students;
communications systems and audiovisual media facilities.
Organizes programs of training and support; provides consultation
services for law school departments, faculty, and students;
supervises law school computing services department including 1.0
FTE network systems engineer, 0.5 FTE computer technician and
student assistants. The departmental staff work closely with and
coordinate the computing work of software specialists in the law
library and other law school departments.

Qualifications: The position requires a masters degree in a
field requiring extensive involvement with computing; at least 3
years experience managing local area networks; meaningful
supervisory experience; proficiency with microcomputer operating
systems and software applications; training or experience in
systems analysis and design and in project management; knowledge
of legal research applications, including LEXIS and WESTLAW,
familiarity with automated library systems; familiarity with
Internet products, utilities, and research tools; knowledge of
microcomputer hardware market; demonstrated oral and written
communication and instructional skills, organizational skills,
and management skills. Preference for candidates with a law
degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Salary commensurate with experience. Available immediately.
