One of our professors is trying to locate some old Massachusetts statutes
cited by the U.S. Supreme Court. The case in which the cite appears is
Holyoke Co. v. Lyman, 82 U.S. 500, 513 (1873). The footnote refers to
2 Laws of Massachusetts, appendix 1020-26. These laws should deal with
the obligation of mill owners to construct fishways around their dams.
Our research indicates that there are many variant volumes and sets of
early Mass. laws, and unfortunately we don't own any of them. If anyone
can help with this, please let me know.
