Friends--
A few minutes ago I sent you a post from Jamie Love on the WINDO
bill. I had planned to send out a similar message on my own, but
Jamie saved me the trouble.
As you know, time is fast running out on the 102d Congress since
they plan to adjourn in early October in order to return home for the
election. So far, at least, there is no talk of a lame duck session.
As a result, it is now do or die for the WINDO bill.
The WINDO bill enjoys support from all the library associations as a
means of providing for public dissemination of electronic government
information. If you agree, it would be most helpful if you would call
or write your Representative and/or Senator *today*. It appears that,
for political reasons, the bill is likely to move first in the house,
then later in the Senate. But it will take a showing of support if
the bill is to move at all.
So, please when you get off the net, the very next thing you should
do is pick up the phone or write to your Representative in Washington.
Don't wait. Time is of the essence.
Thanks for your support.
Bob
P.S. It would be helpful if you would send me a copy of anything you
might write for my file. If you need a fact sheet on the bill, please
call me at (202) 662-9160 and leave your fax number and request with
my secretary and we will be happy to send it out.
