We at USF have had the same problem with the new
LEXIS upgrade that runs under Windows. As far as
I know, the only way to get out of the "insufficient
memory" problem is the way Jim describes. (There is
always the option of restarting the computer, but
that takes quite a while with these terminals.)
I have spoken to both our LEXIS rep and a technical
support person at Mead. They confirm that this is
a feature of the upgrade, and our rep says that there
are currently no plans to correct the problem.
Sounds like it's time for us to raise our voices
in unison.
[By the way, we have noticed that the problem also
arises when students, having completed their research,
sign off and the LEXIS software (instead of quitting
and returning to the Program Manager) display the
message "Error reading a character...." Apparently,
if no one does ALT-Q to quit, the terminal returns
to the Program Manager without quitting from the LEXIS
software.]
