The Federal Trade Commission announced yesterday that it had brought its
first lawsuit against a deceptive online marketing campaign offering repair
credit files. Although the case was not against the purveyor of a "make
money fast" or "chain letter" scheme, the FTC stated that it was
targeting deceptive advertising on the "information superhighway" now.
I have posted this information to this newsgroup because many users of
the WWW have expressed concern about such campaigns. Legitimate users
of the WWW who are concerned about deceptive marketing and advertising
campaigns conducted via the WWW may want to bring them to the attention
of their local FTC office.
