I would like to find out from the academic law library community what
library users can do on PCs in public areas, other than accessing the
library's OPAC. Of particular interest:
1. Are your PCs in a lab, dispersed throughout the library, or both?
2. Do you distinguish between law school clientele and visitors in the
types of services available?
3. Can patrons access the Internet from public PCs? If so, is this access
available to law school and university personnel only, or may a visitor
use a commercial account?
4. Do you impose time limits on use?
5. How do patrons access FTP software? Through a menu choice on their
e-mail account, or as a Windows icon which anyone can access?
6. How do you accommodate printing? Pages limits? Charge or no charge?
Central printing service or printers adjacent to PCs?
7. Are any of your policy documents re: any of the above available via
gopher or anonymous FTP?
Answers to any of these questions will be greatly appreciated. Since
many of us are interested in these issues, please post to the list so all
law-libbers can read, and the postings can be archived. Thanks.
