Binding Softcover Monographs

Here at NYU we are reevaluating our binding practices for softcover
monographs. We are thinking of marking and shelving most softcovers
and only binding those that are expected to get heavy use over a period of
years. Have other libraries adopted a similar approach, and if so, how
would you evaluate it at this point? Also, for softcover monographs which
are to be bound, what bindings do people use besides the class A Library
binding? Thanks for sharing your experience. I will post the results to the
list if others are interested.
