Nonie (et al.)

We recently loaded the CIS records for the hearings 1833-1969 into our
NOTIS system. We have also ordered the records for the Limited Edition,
1970-1976 but they will not be available until later this year. Loaded
to compliment our Marcive load, we have been very please with the
quality of the records. We have even found very few heading problems
or conflicts with our local file.

The hearing records do not have subject headings, but with keyword this
didn't concern us. CIS agreed to add the holdings of the regional
depository at no additional cost. Both holdings codes were added to a
049 field in separate subfields. The CIS mfiche group and acccession
number were present in a 099 field. We had CIS add a 590 note to each
record which contained out local mfiche call number. Be aware that the
CIS mfiche group and accession number frequently exceed the limit of the
NOTIS call number field; the loader truncates the text string. This
will require some public staff intervention as the full string is only
accesible in the BIBL record.

The records were loaded through NOTIS LBC30 modified to our local specs.
This program offers a number of options for processing. One of which
allowed us to move the text of the 590 note into an OPAC displaying
holdings field. If you'd like I can send you the program parameters
that I forwarded to our systems analyst. "Customizing" the loader was
not a time intensive process. Let me know if I can answer any further
questions.
