I attended Fla Bar meetings at the Orlando airport in September
and it reminded me that the AALS will meet at the Marriott World
Center next to Walt Disney World/Epcot Center in January. The
Marriott is about 15 miles from the airport and 20 miles from
downtown Orlando (downtown(?) Kissimmee is only 3 miles from the
Marriott). If you want to leave the hotel during the meeting (it is
somewhat isolated), you should rent a car at the airport. A new
expressway (State Road 417 - 2.00 toll) goes directly
from the airport to the Marriott World Center.
The AALS convention rate at the Marriott is a comparative bargain.
In June, the rate is $135 for the Fla Bar. You can save some money
by making reservations at one of the national chains on Highway 192
in Kissimmee or on International Drive in Orlando. Both of these areas
are relatively close to the Marriott (if you have a car) and have
dozens of places to eat, sleep and make merry. Consult your travel
agent.
