The text of the Texaco opinion is also available on Lexis - 1994 U.S. App.
LEXIS 30437.
There is currently a problem with the text of the opinion on Westlaw.
There is additional text after the last line of the Dissent. This
additional text contains parts of various footnotes. Many of the
footnotes end in mid-sentence, and the remaining text has ended up
jumbled together at the end of the Dissent. I have reported the
problem to West. In the meantime, try another source for the text of
the opinion (or at least the footnotes).
The last line of the Dissent is "For that reason, and the others
stated in this dissent, I conclude that Dr. Chickering's photocopying of
isolated journal articles to assist his own research inquiries is fair use."
After that sentence on Westlaw, there is the beginning of a citation:
Basic Books, Inc. v. Kinko's .... That cite is actually part of Footnote
5, which ends in mid-sentence. The remaining text contains parts of
Footnotes 6, 8, 11, 12, 13, 15 and 18.
I noted the error and I am posting this message at approximately 4:00 pm
Pacific Time on November 2.
