Since I posted the question, ...."spamming" is sending a message on the
Internet to hundreds or thousands of people, or cross-posting to every
Usenet group in one fell swoop. Usually used in reference to postings
that are unsolicited, unwanted and totally irrelevant to all recipients.

The spamming in question was a "legalize drugs" message that appeared in
my e-mail, with thousands of "to" addresses. So many "to" addresses, of
course, that I'm sure few people were interested in paging through them
to actually read the message.
