Re: Five Questions

I have followed with both consternation and amusement the exchanges on legal
citation. I would just like to make a couple of observations:

1. West's responses have been self serving and secretive, as illustrated by
Dorothy Molstad's non-responses to most of Jamie Love's questions. It seems
that a great deal of information that relates to the future of all legal
resources are West business secrets. West's is telling us that our future
is none of our business. They have lost a lot of good will by the way they
have handled this.

2. The credibility of anyone who speaks on this issue who is a recipient of
West's largesse is suspect, as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately, that
includes many of us.

3. I hope James Love does not presume to speak for the law library
profession. He may be a consumer advocate, but he doesn't advocate for me.

4. It would be very unfortunate if the AALL Task Force on Citation Forms
were to allow the controversy to impede their work or to allow the opinions
of TAP or West to influence it. I think we can trust them to make
recommendations that are neutral, objective, and credible.
