For an upcoming CALL seminar on the Internet, I am interested in compiling
information on how those of us in law firms are currently using the
Internet. I am interested primarily in examples of uses beyond e-mail:
valuable as it is. I would very much appreciate answers to the following
administrative questions regarding firm Internet use in addition to the
sharing of experiences.
1) Who has access within the firm? Who decides this (if anyone!)?
2) How is access provided? I am interested in the vendors used as well as
how it is physically made available within the firms (on a LAN, etc.)
3) Billing: How is this funded? (overhead; client development; billed to
individual attorneys; library; attorneys maintain own accounts; etc.) Is
any of the cost recovered (billed to clients)? If the firm is a
subscriber to Counsel Connect, I'd appreciate this being indicated, and
the same questions answered for it as well.
4) Is training provided within the firm? If so, who provides it? What is
covered? If this is not provided by the library, are librarians involved?
Please respond to me directly; I will summarize the responses for the
list. Thank you for your assistance!
