VISITING SCHOLARS 1995 & 1996
The University of the South Pacific seeks to attract visiting scholars
to be attached to its Department of Law to assist in the development of
the law degree programme. The LLB began in 1994 and will move into its
elective phase in 1996. The degree is intended to enable graduates to
seek admission to practice law in the jurisdictions of the University
region.
Visiting Scholars will be based either in the USP campus in Suva (Fiji)
or at the new law complex in Port Vila (Vanuatu). The usual duration of the
scholarship would be for one semester, commencing in second semester 1995.
Visiting scholars will be expected to assist in the course development
and teaching of an elective of their choice. These electives should
correspond with those designated in the LLB programme (eg family law
trade and investment law, commercial law, revenue and tax law,
transport law, labour law, comparative legal systems, criminology,
conflict of laws, resources law, environmental law, customary law,
personal rights, ocean law, European community law relating to the
Pacific). Besides their teaching and development commitments, Visiting
Scholars will be encouraged to engage in research with a regional focus.
Visiting Scholars will be provided with an allowance of $12,000fj
for the period of their attachment. They will also be given office
accommodation and access to University Library and research facilities.
Applications for the semester of choice should be made no later than
the end of June and the end of December preceding. Applications should
comprise a letter of interest and intent, covering teaching and research
expectations, and a current CV which includes information on
teaching and research experience.
