1. Plenary Session:
The National Conference on Legal Information Issues' Plenary Session
(From Books to Bytes: A History of Legal Publishing) will take place
on Sunday, July 16 at 1:15 p.m. Speakers are Bob Berring (Boalt
Hall), Kathryn Downing (L. Coop.), and Toni Carbo Bearman (Pitt.
Library School).
2. The Hot Topic will address library outsourcing.
Program I-5 (Outsourcing: Boon or Bane for Law Libraries), which was
sponsored by Online Bib. SIS and co-sponsored by the Tech. Serv. SIS,
will concentrate on outsourcing technical services activities.
By contrast, the Hot Topic program (L-2) will address the broader
issue of outsourcing an entire library. Kay Todd has agreed to
coordinate this program.
3. The MLS debate:
Those who are following the MLS/non MLS debate might want to
take note of two Pittsburgh programs -- "Preparing New Law Librarians
for the Information Age: A Matter of Degree" (G-1); and "Preparing
New Law Librarians . . . : Training and Education for Reference Work
(H- 1).
