I have received several very helpful responses to this posting, which I
will summarize in the future. The meeting at which our rule will be
considered does not take place until next Friday, so I am still
interested in comments.
Several people were interested in the text of the rule, so here it is:
This is a proposed amendment to Oregon Rules of Appellate Procedure 5.10 (5):
(5) All briefs, except those filed by a party not represented by an
attorney, shall be accompanied by a computer diskette, in its static free
envelope, 3.5 inch or 5 1/4 inch High Density, containing the brief in a
standard ASCII-based word processing format. Each diskette shall be
carefully labelled with the short title lof the case; the name of the
document (e.g. Appellant's Brief, Respondent's Brief, etc.); the case
number assigned below, and the case number assigned by the appellate
court; and the name of the word processor used to create the Document.--
