I haven't heard of the study, but I do know that the online SHepards does
not always go back to the first volumes of a set; furthermore, the
coverage can vary from time to time. I remember that often the early
volumes (with old citations to old cases) were not included in the online
versions, which would only go back to a certain supplement.
While we have dropped our Shepards book subscriptions, we have retained
the volumes we had just for early citation history not included in the
online versions.

I hope this muddled comment helps (it's getting close to 10:30 PM)
