I suspect the case arose from a student's paper written on an issue
covered by the course taught by the professor concerned.
I share a different view. A professor teaching a subject is expected
to be well versed with the literature dealing with the different issues
covered by the subject he/she teaches. As a librarian, I feel that
maintaining the confidentiality of client's information is one of the
cornerstones of librarianship and therefore this principle must be
respected.
When there is a choice between librarian's professionalism and a
professor's familiarity with the literature, I, as a librarian,
tend to choose the former.
