I didn't get all of the message, but I did receive the part about
firms(?) requiring students to exhaust print resources before going
on line. As the Westlaw/Lexis coordinator here, the biggest
complaint I get is from firms griping about the overuse of computer
resources by students and recent grads, particularly the amount of
printing and downloading they do. We now require students to attend
a class comparing Westlaw and Lexis with each other and with print
resources. We also spell out the real world costs of using the
computerized resources, particularly printing and downloading.
This seems to make an impression, but so far I haven't noticed any
difference in the students use of the computers in the school.
