This isn't quite the question I posed. I want to know how many schools
have some for of REQUIRED research training after the first year. While
optional courses are good, I think a large majority of the students tend
not to take them. Perhaps what I am asking is how many schools integrate
research into the curriculum after the first year.

Thanks to Mary Jensen for posing a good follow-up question to the one I
originally presented about teaching research to 1Ls. Mary wants to know how
many schools have a course in research after the first year. While not
entirely responsive to her question, Vol. 1, No. 2 (Jan. 1993) of
Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing does contain an article by
Penny Hazelton entitled "Advanced Legal Research Courses: An Update." Penny
lists 88 schools with some type of program.
