This message is for Innovative Interfaces, Inc. law librarians wanting
information about upcoming Innovative activities at AALL in Boston and the
May users group mailing. This email is being cross-posted to the INNOPAC and
LAW-LIB lists. **** this is a long posting ****

                                FOR AALL PLANNING

The Law Users Group meeting will be on Saturday, July 10th from 2-5pm. Please
try and attend. We'll discuss and vote on our official name (since most
libraries responded positively to having our acronym being ILUG for
Innovative Law Users Group) and we'll talk about having a UG fee so we can
have a bank of money to use for mailing and photocopy expenses for ILUG
activities.

Refresher training will take place throughout the conference. For now,
plan on finding out the time and place of the refreshers (presented by
Innovative's Sandy Weaver) will be at the Innovative booth at the Marriott.
We'll try and have the time and places of refreshers in the convention
"daily."

The all-day workshop will be on Thursday July 15th from 9-4pm. Anne Myers
(Boston U. Law) is local arrangements person for the workshop and tells me
that attendees need to take the "T"--Green line buses from one of the
hotels to Barrister Hall at BU where the workshop will be held (walking is
not recommended). Registration forms are coming with the May mailing and
will include directions to Barrister Hall and other things you need to
know for the workshop. Cost is $25.00 and covers food expenses. We're
planning on a light buffet.... sandwiches, cheese, meat.. that kind of
stuff--- and the place where we eat is on the 12th floor and the view will
be 'way-cool' and there should be plenty of room for us mill and talk.
There will be enough non-animal food to satisfy the vegans or vegatarians.

The format of the workshop will be two 1 hour and 15 minute sessions in
the morning and two 1 hour and 15 minute sessions in the afternoon. Sandy
Weaver will be the presenter and will cover the following topics: ----
Cataloging in release 8 ---- Acquisitions and serials in release 8 ----
Release 8 changes for circulation, and ---- Alternate databases. Sandy
will cover these as a general overview allowing for discussion and
specific demonstration of selected new features. We are planning on
tapping into the BU system so Sandy can make her presentation with a
"live" system. Should be good. We've tried to incorporate many
suggestions to improve this year's workshop from the evaluations we got
last year. We will have receipts available at the workshop site for those
who need receipts. The workshop room will hold no more than 80 people, so
I have decided to limit the registrations to that amount. There will be a
June 30th deadline for the registration forms to be mailed to me, so watch
for the May mailing. You should expect it to arrive at your institution
by Tuesday May 18th. If not, contact me. I'll mail them 1st class.

Topics like Systems Administration, Inventory Control, Statistics,
Materials Booking, Binding, and perhaps Faxon serials changes... will be
covered in the training refreshers which will be presented also by Sandy
throughout the Boston convention. Go to the Innovative booth for positive
verification of rooms and days and times for the training refreshers.
We're working on having that info also appear in the convention "daily."

The ILUG meeting will be July 10th from 2-5pm. Format will be the same as
previous years: Business portion (announcements, name of new Vice-Chair,
new Chair, Terry Toy, might say a few words, then we will do a hand vote and
discussion of ILUG membership fees, vote on our official name after some
discussion) Innovative Interfaces, Inc. President, Jerry Kline will speak
on the status of the Company, perhaps future directions of Innovative,
then someone perhaps speaking about any new services and such, then we
break out into small groups: VACQ-only folks, acquisitions, serials,
cataloging, systems administration, circ... etc.

Then from 6-7:30pm on Saturday July 10th, Innovative will host the annual
TS, OBS, RS/SIS's "alphabet-soup" reception. Last year you may recall, it
was at a fabulous art gallery--- Nice time to mill, smooze and chat before
the convention kicks off full steam.

Watch for your mailings. It will include: Ballots and bio info on
candidates for Vice-Chair/Chair Elect, summation of survey results,
workshop registration form and info on AALL Innovative activities.

That's all for now. Contact me if you have any questions or comments.
I prefer email. Thanks.
