          Reporting the to director of Computer and A/V Services:

          Shares major responsibility for software and hardware

          support and installation on staff and faculty personal

          computers. Responsible for technical duties such as

          customizing software including VAX, UNIX, DOS/WINDOWS

          operating systems and applications software. Primary

          responsibility for installing and troubleshooting

          communications systems and software including end user

          training and support.

          Serves as backup system administrator for VAX account

          management, provides help with migration to UNIX.

          Implements Internet tools in support of legal education.

          Facilitates with the migration from standalone desktop

          environment to IPX/TCP-IP networked environment assuming

          increasing responsibility for support as migration is

          accomplished.

          Assists HLS faculty in the academic use of computer tools

          such as conferencing and electronic mail.

          Troubleshoots hardware and software problems and refers them

          to appropriate sources for solution. Evaluates problems and

          makes referral to outside repair contractors. Provides

          liaison between the users and outside repair vendors.

          Evaluates software products for suitability to the HLS

          environment. Performs preproduction evaluation of new

          network products, and evaluation of new software packages

          for network compatibility and security issues.

          May help conduct individual training sessions in the areas

          of Internet use, EMAIL, and basic network navigation; and

          may write related documentation as required.

          Other related duties as required.

          Bachelor's degree preferred:

          Requires documented technical skills with at least 4 years

          related experience at increasing levels of responsibility.

          Extensive knowledge of DOS/WINDOWS operating system and

          competence in a programming language required. Proven

          UNIX--TCP/IP skills essential. Extensive familiarity with

          Internet navigation tools such as Web browsers, gopher, ftp

          etc. greatly desirable. Able to analyze needs and work well

          independently. Ability to effectively manage a variety of

          tasks in a timely and organized manner. Comfortable

          establishing and maintaining priorities. Training

          experience highly desirable. Ability to work with a wide

          range of end users with varying abilities and needs.

          Term appointment not to exceed June 30, 1997 which may be renewed
          contingent on funding.
