After I read Scott Pagel's message that Lexis is placing
restrictions on print jobs sent to stand alone printers, attached
printers and downloading, I called our Lexis Account Rep. for more
information.
I discovered that the print restrictions do not apply
when the .pr command is chosen. It is only the .pa (print all) command
that triggers the restrictions. I then wondered how choosing 50 .pr jobs
saved time, money, etc. I am still wondering. In addition, it appears
that a user could be following the rules and using .pr to their heart's
content and then obtain a cite list to which they respond by entering
.pa. Of course they want all the cites, they want to go to the shelves
and pull the books manually, right?
The soon to be instituted print restrictions mean
that all of the .pr lines will be added to the user's total and the user
will be restricted from getting the cite list because using .pa triggers
the restrictions. Using .pa at any time means that all .pr lines will be
added to the total lines reqested for the day and the restriction will be
instituted.
Finally, I have yet to receive an answer as to when exactly the
restrictions will begin...and more importantly...will all of our users be
notified of the new rules before they are imposed? I am hopeful
that we will get documentation before the big event.
