If you have already seen this I apologize.)
A member of our faculty is trying to obtain information on software for
curriculum development that is geared to law school use. He has heard of th
is
software but can give me no more details. I have checked a few places but h
ave
not located anything specifically geared toward law schools. Is anyone fami

Any help would be appreciated.

***** NOTES from David Kiefer (DKIEFER @ KENTNET) at 3/30/93 10:34a
CALI/LEAP has a few programs that are authoring tools specifically
designed for law schools and law faculty. These are available free of
charge to CALI member schools. We will be distributing versions of these
at the CALI Conference for Law School Computing Professionals in June,
but if you would like a copy of either of these programs, or more
information, please let me know. These are the programs:
1. CALI/LEAP LessonBuilder for HyperPAD
This program is an authoring tool that allows professors or other
domain experts to construct interactive question-and-answer CAI lessons
in any subject matter area (but especially law). The tool is a WYSIWYG
development environment, and has 18 different question types, and also
supports internal hypertext references and graphics up to VGA. Questions
can be constructed and tested on the fly. The final products can be run
using a runtime module that can be distributed freely. The LessonBuilder
tool and the lessons built with it can run on any machine, from an 8088
up, with or without a mouse, on color or monochrome. There is a professor
here at Chicago-Kent who has constructed a series on first-year contracts
law that consists of about 30 lessons. Each takes about 30 minutes to run
through. His research assistant constructed them over the last five
months - he can construct one in about 4 hours now. We are working on a
Windows version of this tool that will be able to import lessons built in
the DOS version of the tool, and vice versa. The Windows version will
also have support for multimedia extensions and enhanced font
capabilities under Windows 3.1.
2. CALI/LEAP BookBuilder for HyperPAD
This tool is very similar to the LessonBuilder, except it is used to
construct heirarchical outlines and electronic casebooks or casebook
companions. (An electronic casebook has the full text of the cases and
other materials, a casebook companion has the structure, but no text - it
is a notetaking, outlining, and organizational tool.) This tool is still
in beta at this point, but should also be ready for release in June.
I hope this is helpful. I guess I don't know what you mean by
"curriculum development". We also have a wide variety of programs that
are available at a discount to CALI member schools through the LEAP Third
Party Software program, and some other experimental authoring tools that
are under development. Please contact me if you would like any
additional information.
