Richard,
At one point, we charged paralegal programs for a tour of the
library. This only lasted a short time, and the dean was not sure he
wanted to support the policy. We got no complaints, and the fee was not
too high: $25.00 for up to 12 students.
Actually, giving the tours is not the most difficult and objection-
able part of paralegal use. What I hate is the classes being "dumped"
on us, with no instruction and no introduction. We are being expected to
teach the class by doing reference one on one! The last time this
happened, I encouraged the class members I encountered to complain to the
school's administration that they were not getting their money's worth!
I also write to the egregious school's administration, and threaten to
bar the students. This is really a hollow threat, since we are open
to the public, and it would be nearly impossible to identify the para-
legal students. That is why we have only charged for tours in the
past. I would be interested in seeing others' thoughts on this.
