The discussion and descriptions of Advanced Legal Research curricula have
been very interesting. It sounds as though many of us are addressing the
need for advanced training in a variety of ways.
The AALS Section on Libraries is considering whether to submit a proposal to
the AALS Executive Committee for a one day workshop on the teaching of
advanced legal research in connection with the 1995 (!) annual meeting. We
know there is interest among colleagues, the only question is whether this
would be the best place to do a workshop (although we don't know where the
place will be) and whether we are the appropriate group to make such a
proposal. The AALS Section on Research and Writing is doing a 2-3 day
workshop this July in DC, but as I understand from the program it is almost
exclusively on writing (with one breakout session on ALR). If the AALL
Academic SIS had an interest, they might try to do a workshop or institute in
connection with the 1994 Seattle meeting (assuming everything isn't already
booked) -- that would permit more participation by teachers of research who
don't normally get to go to the AALS meeting.
We have to submit our proposal in May. I would appreciate input/suggestions
from ALR people. Please respond to me directly and I will summarize.
