RE: CD-ROM towers

Use of multiple player cd/rom machines (towers, e.g.) can make simultaneous
access possible only if the cd/rom search software can search multiple
cd/roms simultaneously. For example, all of the Silver Platter products
have this feature (you can search three years worth of BIOSIS -- six
disks -- at the same time), but Dialog OnDisc and Science Citation
Index on CD/ROM do have this feature.

Our cd/roms are networked, and we are using three seven-player towers
(seven is the maximum number of players you can have in any one machine)
with Toshiba drives. The towers were supplied by Silver Platter and
have their logo on them, but they are manufactured by someone else for
their use. I do not know the original manufacturer. Prior to networking
our cd/roms, we used the Todd/Hitachi four-player unit, and before that,
we daisy-chained four Hitachi drives together. In both cases, we were
generally pretty pleased with the performance.

Hope this helps...
