We have a stapler at the circulation desk that is to STAY at the desk.
We used to go through staplers like water when they were located in
the photocopy rooms. We have tape and "white-out" behind the desk
for students to use only at the desk. We even have a circulation
card for scissors, etc.
When we are tidying up and come across pens or pencils left in the
library, they are collected and kept at the desk. These are the only
ones we "loan" to people who come un-prepared.
I find it very frustrating to have students asking for pencils, etc.
when they came to the library to DO RESEARCH! At least I can nag my
children when they get ready to work and "forgot" whatever it was.
I don't see it getting any better, either. How many times a day
do we get attorneys who want to copy "a couple pages" and all they
have is a $20 bill. Like "I" always have change for a twenty
in my purse! Get real!
