Our library circulation desk is still using an "electric"
Demco book charger, serial #6041 which we purchased in 1980. It
is one of those heavy metal machines with four date rollers
designed to hold a plastic ID card with raised letters (similar
to a credit card) and imprint the patron's name from the card,
along with the due date on the circulation card.
Unfortunately, our machine has broken down, and it is no
longer serviced by Demco and parts for this machine are
apparently no longer manufactured. We hope to someday enter the
"90's" with an on-line circulation system to go with the OPAC
that we are also waiting for, but that is no in our foreseeable
future.
Is there a library "out there," perhaps one that has
recently automated, that has a similar charge machine which we
could use for spare parts or as a replacement. If so, we are
most eager to talk to you. Please contact me directly via e-
mail, phone or snail mail. Any creative solutions to our dilemma
will also be entertained.
