Office Supplies?

This message is aimed primarily at academic law librarians, but
others may recognize the same situation at their workplaces.

How do you handle the problem of numerous office supply requests at
the Circulation Desk? This really sems to be getting out of hand at
my library. We do have two or three different kinds of staplers and
a 3-hole punch at the end of our Circulation counter. However, we
constantly get requests for tape, scissors, paper clips, white-out,
rubber bands, pens/pencils for class, or you name it. These requests
cause many work interruptions throughout the day, not to mention the
cost of providing these supplies. I'd like to accommodate our
students, but this seems a little much. I've found that many
students believe they are entitled to such supplies as tuition-paying
members of the law school community. Would that be like taxpayer
status (and we all know about that one!)? Anyway, I'd appreciate some
feedback or problem-solving strategies. Thanks a lot.
