I want to thank everyone who responded to my
question on where libraries kept their offline
Westlaw and Lexis printers. I received 14
responses. Nine libraires reported that they
kept the printers in non-public
areas such as behind circulation or in library
offices. (Potential problems noted include whether
faculty members sending print requests to the
printers have access to the rooms containing the
printers if staff members are not available.
Another potential problem is printer malfunctions
going unobserved.)
Five libraires reported that they do have the
printers in room accessible by students and
that no problems have arisen. Students have not
complained about not having use of the printers.
Two of these libraries inform students that if
they have a long document to print that is not
available in the library, the students can
request the reference staff to print it for them.
Again, thanks for the response.
