AALL in Pittsburgh

Hello again. Since it is getting close to the annual AALL convention and
since that convention is in Pittsburgh, I thought I'd send you all another
note to remind you of some of the better things to do in Pittsburgh, at
least some of my favorite things to do . . .

Dining. My favorite restaurant is Mallorca, a Spanish/Potugese restaurant
in Pittsburgh's Southside. Only a few minutes drive from downtown. When
you go there be VERY HUNGRY. The portions are enormous and so is the
quantity of garlic. If you order the garlic shrimp appetizers, there are
about thirty shrimp in there (along with about 5 cloves of garlic)

Also, there are a number of elegant restaurants on Mt. Washington. Mt.
Washington is a hillside that borders the southern side of downtown. At the
top of it sits Grandview Avenue. On Grandview there is a very romantic
walkway, and several fine dining restaurants. It is easy to get there and
fun to. Simply take the 'T' (Pgh's Subway) to Station Square which is right
across the Monogahela River and ride the INCLINE to the top. Don't know
what an incline is? It is a cable car that goes straight up the
mountainside. You have to see it.

Station Square is a shopping district with several fine restaurants to boot.
The Grand Concourse is the best known. If you are going to be in town on
Sunday Morning, check out their Sunday Brunch. Everything you could imagine
and then some.

Nightlife.

Probably the best place to go for the nightlife is the Boardwalk. The
Boardwalk is an entertainment complex on the Allegheny River (2 minutes from
downtown). It has a large wooden deck, not quite as large as a football
field. On this deck are several bars, boats docking, and oftentimes a boat
on the river with a band playing. In addition, the Boardwalk has several
restaurants, Buster's Crab and Crewsers. It also has a nightclub for
dancing called Donzi's.

If you enjoy the mountains, take a drive (about an hour) to Seven Springs
Ski Resort or the Youghiogheny Dam. Various moutain activities at each.
Also in that region is Fallingwater. Fallingwater is a home designed by
Frank Llyod Wright and is quite a house to see.

That's it for now. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

Thank you.
