JOB DESCRIPTION
ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES
SCHOOL OF LAW
Job Function
The Associate Dean for Information Resources reports to the Dean of
the School of Law and is responsible for all matters pertaining to
the acquisition, maintenance and distribution of information in
support of the academic mission of the School of Law.
Qualifications
A Juris Doctor degree is required. Five to seven years experience in
a legal or educational setting is strongly preferred. Substantial
experience in the use of technology in an information based
environment is required. A demonstrated ability to establish and
maintain ongoing relationships and communications with professional
students, faculty, administrative staff and alumni is required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong
management skills are required. A Masters degree in library science
and employment experience in a law library are desirable, but not
essential.
Responsibilities
A. Develop (in consultation with dean, faculty, and appropriate
administrators), periodically refine and modify, and implement a plan
for acquiring, maintaining and distributing information to support
not only the scholarship, teaching and learning of the law school
community, but also all administrative functions that provide support
for the academic mission.
B. Provide leadership, direction and oversight to the Law Library.
Participate in law library administration and management. Work
closely with the Associate Director to identify emerging technology
in the law libraries, legal research methods, and legal education.
Ensure that the goals and objectives of the law library are in
alignment with the mission of the School of Law.
C. Provide leadership, direction and oversight to the Computer
Support Department. Work closely with the Director of Computer
Support to develop, implement and maintain a computer support
infrastructure that effectively supports the academic and
administrative functions of the School of Law. Along with the
Director, identify emerging technology in computers as it relates to
legal education and administration of law schools. Ensure that the
goals and objectives of computer support are in alignment with the
mission of the School of Law.
D. Provide leadership, direction and oversight to the Audiovisual
Coordinator. Work closely with the Coordinator to identify changes
in the use of audio visual equipment in legal education. Develop and
implement a plan, along with the Coordinator, to educate the law
school community about the effective use of audio visual equipment in
legal education. Ensure that the goals and objectives of audiovisual
services are in alignment with the mission of the School of Law.
E. Acquire and manage the resources necessary to provide information
services to the law school community.
F. Serve as a an ex officio member of the following faculty
committees: library, building and computer support.
G. Other projects and duties as assigned by the Dean.
