Aggressive marketing?

Rumor had it among the attorneys last week that Martindale Hubbell was
going to assign all attorneys an Internet email address. They got all
excited. No one has talked about who was pay for this, by the way. I
suspected that LCC was involved, because why not? They're all the same
company. I wanted some more information, as did our comptroller and
executive director! Our rep. at MH didn't know anything about everyone
getting an email address, but did offer the information that they would
be providing space in their form for EXISTING email addresses sometime.
(It's not in this year's form).

Anyway, I just got my Lexis Update and it says: " An example of increased
user-friendliness is the recent collaboration of Lexis-Nexis,
Martindale-Hubbell and Lexis Counsel Connect (LCC) to create an electronic
mail and information system linking all US laywers listed in the
Martindale Hubbell Law Directory with an LCC email address accessible
through the Internet."

What does this mean, exactly? Our firm is definitely NOT interested to
letting the attorneys loose on the net, especially at LCC prices. I sent
an email to LCC on Tuesday, asking about this, but we know they don't
talk to librarians, and I have had no response. Does anyone know what
this all means, who's supposed to pay, how it's supposed to work, etc.? I
know LCC has been giving out software right and left....I doubt seriously
they are giving away email or Internet access!

I await.....
