Well, when it rains - it pours. I have two questions on two totally
difference topics.
1) An attorney is looking for some history on a particular law that was
enacted in New Jersey (L.1989 c.348). Here in New York, we have bill
jackets that contain the governor's memos, and any pro or con memos that
were submitted regarding each bill. However, I spoke to a librarian in
the NJ State Legislative Library, and she said that any material regarding
bills from
past sessions would be kept at the State Law Library (in Trenton). My
question is: does anyone know of a service or other method of getting
this background documentation?
2) I have been asked for the first time to retrieve a consent decree. I
have tried the Federal Register, the three files in Lexis that deal with
consent decrees, case law (to see if it was mentioned) - and I'm stuck.
This apparently took place in California, between 1988-90, and involved
Avon Books, International Circulation Distributors, Hearst publishing,
and possibly Northern California Booksellers Association. How does one
get a consent decree, especially from a state that is on the opposite
coast? Or, does anyone happen to have this at their fingertips?
Any help on either topic would be uplifting!
