Take a look at Jim McElhaney's book, published by the ABA -- it is a
compilation of his columns. You should also look at the three (soon to be
four) volume work by former federal judge Herbert J. Stern, _Trying Cases
to Win_, especially volume one, which deals with opening argument. Both
Judge Stern and I believe that an opening statement should be more than a
"story," however. The most effective opening presentation to a jury should
be organized as an "argument" -- without being argumentative. Judge Stern
explains how to do this in volume one.
