Responsibilities: The University of California, School of Law Library at
Boalt Hall seeks an energetic, creative and self-motivated law librarian to
plan, develop, promote and implement new technologies in the law library and
law school. The person in this position will assist and train law faculty and
students in traditional areas of legal reference and legal research as well.
This position would also have responsibility for collection development and
organization of online materials. Duties include evaluating and developing all
law library electronic information services, including networked databases,
internet resources and the Boalt Hall gopher. Person in this position would
help in the development of a World Wide Web site and would evaluate and
implement online document delivery systems, including Ariel and digital forms
of electronic delivery. The person in this position would work directly with
Campus Computing Services, the Main Library computer services, the Divison of
Library Automation and the Boalt Hall computer staff on technical issues of
access to electronic information through the internet and campus network.
Duties include acting as a team leader for the designing training programs for
law faculty and students on all electronic databases, including Lexis,
Westlaw, the Internet, Innopac, Melvyl, Gladis, and CD-Roms. Duties would also
include developing workshops and courses to keep law faculty and students
abreast of innovations in electronic access to information and working with law
faculty to integrate electronic resources and electronic teaching methods into
their traditional law school courses. Person in this position would work
with the Boalt Hall computer staff in selecting necessary hardware and software
for the library and in developing and customizing electronic access to meet the
needs of law faculty and students. This position will report to the Deputy
Director of the law library.
Minimum Qualifications: A degree in librarianship from an ALA-Accredited
library school. A JD or other graduate degree in an area related to law or
jurisprudence, or extensive experience in an academic law library required.
Knowledge of traditional legal research methods required. Knowledge of CD-ROM
databases, online searching techniques, the Internet, including Gopher and
World Wide Web, and client/server applications is required. Teaching or
training experience in the area of electronic databases and in traditional
legal bibliographic instruction is required. Substantial knowledge of Lexis
and Westlaw and knowledge of software and hardware requirements in a law
library environment are required. Must have strong analytical,
organizational, and oral and written communication skills. Must be able to
work independently and cooperatively in a highly diverse and competitive
academic environment.
Salary and Employment Status: Associate Librarian, potential career status.
Salary $36,108-$39,648, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a
permanent, full-time (100%) position.

bargaining agent, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). This position is
included in the bargaining unit.
