My library is considering purchasing and loading into the OPAC the
CIS cataloging tapes for the CIS microfiche library. Before
commiting ourselves to a fairly expensive project, I thought I would
survey law-lib users to see the experiences of others with this tape
load.
I would like to know the impact of this data on the OPAC. Does it
make key word searching slow with lots of irrelevant hits? Do you
need to add stop words to your programing? Does this slow down
response time in the OPAC? Are the tapes "clean" or do you need to
make a lot of corrections? And finally, is the access provided by
this tape load in any way superior to the access provided by the CIS
Index and Abstracts? Or are we spending all this money to make the
ABA statistics people happy?
TIA for any and all assistance.
