REQUIREMENTS: M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school
and J.D. or equivalent from ABA-accredited law school plus at least two
years of relevant professional library experience. An additional two years
of relevant professional library experience may substitute for one of the
above degrees.
Preference will be given to applicants with dual degrees and with public
services or reference experience in an academic law library. Demonstrated
supervisory/management ability; strong interpersonal and organizational
skills; good written and oral communications skills; thorough knowledge of
legal research processes, including computer-based research.
DESCRIPTION: Manage all aspects of Public Services Department, including
reference services, circulation, reserves, and online research. Formulate
policies and procedures for operation of the department. Supervise
Reference Librarian, Circulation Supervisor, and Circulation Clerk.
Provide reference services as needed, including some night and weekend
reference, group tours and presentations. Participate in Collection
Development Committee. This is a general faculty, non-tenure-track
position. Appointment will be made at Assistant University Librarian,
Associate University Librarian, or University Librarian rank, depending on
experience.
SETTING: The Florida State University College of Law Library includes a
collection of 369,000 volumes and volume equivalents. With eight
librarians and ten support staff, the Law Library serves the 600 law
students and 45 faculty of the College of Law, as well as the general
students and faculty of two major universities and a large community
college, the state government, and the local bar. The Law Library is
completely automated with the NOTIS system.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: $34,900-$37,900. The College of Law Library offers
substantial additional benefits, including payment of professional
association dues and support for attendance at professional conferences and
workshops.
